When added to water, electrolytes serve various purposes. Ö helps you discover what they are and their benefits. Ö explains what electrolytes are and why we’ve included them in our Ö Solution Health Sport line.
“Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electric charge when dissolved in a liquid such as blood. Blood electrolytes help regulate nerve and muscle function and maintain acid-base and fluid balance.”1
The Role of Electrolytes
Ö offers three lines of flavored vitamin solutions: Ö Solution Health, Ö Solution Health for Kids, and finally, Ö Solution Health Sport. Each line provides different benefits. For instance, we added electrolytes in the Sport line because, during high-intensity or endurance sports, the body loses electrolytes essential for various functions. Calcium, which also supports muscle and heart function as well as blood clotting, has been added to our Ö Health Solutions, although these do not contain potassium. The consequences of electrolyte imbalance
As seen, an electrolyte imbalance is not desirable, nor is a fluid imbalance. Proper hydration supports physical performance and concentration. For example, potassium deficiency could even lead to heart problems! While maintaining electrolyte balance is essential, a casual athlete only needs to stay well-hydrated without necessarily consuming sports drinks with added electrolytes, as excess electrolytes are eliminated in urine. So, if you engage in moderate-intensity or duration activities, Ö Solution Health is your ideal choice.
What affects electrolyte levels in the body?
Electrolytes are lost through sweat. During high-intensity or endurance training, water and electrolyte losses increase with sweating and respiration rates, making it essential to hydrate with an electrolyte-rich drink. This is also true when training outdoors in hot weather or during a hot yoga session. This is why we created the Ö Solution Health Sport line. Note that other factors also contribute to electrolyte loss, such as poor nutrient absorption, vomiting, kidney issues, certain medications, and age.
How to replace electrolytes
Electrolytes are naturally found in fruits and vegetables, so a good diet helps maintain a healthy fluid balance. However, if you’re active in sports, good nutrition may not suffice. After your workout, choosing a sports drink free of excessive sugars, additives, or chemicals is essential. In developing Ö, we created a product you can add to water that is healthy and free from the undesirable ingredients found in most popular sports drinks. To have the right measure… use our measuring spoon!
